I'll take "Potpourri" for $500, Alex...
Miscellaneous pictures (mostly of myself and places I've lived). These
are in chronological order - as best as I could remember, anyway.
- Me with my park district "nature club" when I
was about six
- That's me in the red shirt, feeding the ducks
from the pier at our cottage in Sister Lakes, Michigan when I was
about eight years old
- And that's the cottage itself
- Me being attacked by vicious killer deer at a
park in Michigan when I was about 10 years old. That's my Aunt Karen
in the background
- Big swing and a miss - me at the plate
during our city championship season in little league
- My division and city championship trophies from
little league, along with the game ball I got during one of the
championship games for driving in the game-winning run
- Me during junior high commencement ceremonies -
I'm the tall one wearing the white, short-sleeved shirt
- That's me on the left, the first time I'd ever
gone skiing, and proving that I have no idea what the "bullet
position" is. This was in Vail, Colorado. That's my dad in the
middle and my brother on the right
- Me in Snowmass, Colorado when I was about 14
years old. Yikes! One of the scariest pictures of myself
- Me imitating a statue in the Bahamas, about
15 years old
- Upstairs at our house in Naperville, proving that
I actually can occasionally get a tan, after a trip to Michigan when
I was about 15
- A cool picture of me at Timber-lee winter
camp in Wisconsin, where our high school church group went every
year
- Barely visible slightly right-of-center in this
picture is a tornado which nipped at our heels through Colorado and
Nebraska while our high school church group returned from the
national conference in Denver in 1988
- Me doing my Sean Penn imitation ("Get that
camera out of my face!") when I was about 16 years old, during a
softball game with my high school church group. Check out those
forearm muscles - woo woo! I must've eaten my spinach!
- Me at April's house, about 16 years old
- Me in my produce department uniform from the
grocery store I worked at for two years
- One of the best pictures I've ever taken! This
was at Epcot Center at Disneyworld during our church trip in 1990, by
the "jumping fountains". Or maybe he just really had to go?
- Me with speaker Pat Hurley during the 1990 trip
in Florida
- One of my favorite pictures of myself - that's
me in my red high school jacket during physics class. The box I'm
leaning on was a device I built for JETS competition (Junior
Engineering Technical Society). We had to build a device into which
you would place a tennis ball, and exactly five seconds after the
ball was inserted, it had to be ejected. The judges measured my
device at 4.99 seconds. Send me email if you want to know how I did
it (for free, no less, unlike the other competitors who bought
elaborate computer-controlled timers, springs, etc.)
- Part of the Chicago skyline at dusk, as seen from
Lake Michigan during my church's high school graduation trip
- Some of "the guys" before we got on the boat
during the church trip. The three on the right are Dan, Marc and Matt
- Me on the UIUC quad outside Foellinger
Auditorium during on-campus registration, just before my first
semester
- Me sitting under a tree on the quad, pretending
to read a book
- Another one of my favorite pictures of myself -
this one was taken as our floor prepared for judging of the hall
Christmas decorating contest my first year at UIUC
- Another good picture of me aboard the Carnival
cruise ship "Fantasy" over New Year's during my first year at UIUC
- Me during finals week "study snacks" at UIUC
at the end of my first year. Like Officer Bob says in the APB
video game, "I sure could use a doughnut!"
- The view from my bedroom on the 53rd floor of
North Harbor Tower where I lived with my dad for a year. The Tower
is right where the Chicago River meets the infamous Lake Shore Drive,
the bridge of which is open for the tall ship in the middle of the
picture. The tent across the river was for Cirque du Soleil, which
I saw with my then-girlfriend Kim. Just beyond that is the North
Pier mall
- The living room of my apartment as it looked
shortly after I moved in back in the summer of 1994 right after I
graduated from UIUC
- The hidden dangers of networking: when cables
attack! A picture of me being swarmed over and sucked under the floor
by the evil, ancient cabling. Subtitled "if only I could reach my can
of RC to regain my magic powers!" From the summer of 1996.
